Taekwondo-Tackle-Your-Weaknesses-TKO-TaekwondoIf you’ve been training Taekwondo for a while, you might have a pretty good idea of your strengths and weaknesses. Or perhaps you’re in the process of figuring it out.

In martial arts training, we want to make sure that your strengths remain a strength. But at the same time, by only training your strengths, you might neglect areas of potential growth. Rather than avoiding your weaknesses, tackling them can make you a better, more well-rounded practitioner.

Here are a few suggestions on how to tackle your weaknesses:

1. Acknowledge Your Weaknesses

It can be easy to ignore the things you’re not that good at. Rather than addressing these gaps in performance, it’s more comfortable to figure out ways around them. But to tackle your weaknesses, the first thing you’ll need to do is acknowledge what you’re not as strong in. Once you’ve identified an area where you’re weaker, then you can start making a plan to address it.

2. Turn to Someone Who Can Help

Seeking guidance from an expert is a great way to find out how to improve on our weaknesses. A good instructor, coach, and teacher knows how to work with you to grow. They can collaborate with you in a way that prevents you from feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or discouraged.

3. Be Prepared to Work

When you’re focused on improving in an area that you’d consider a strength, change can sometimes come fairly quickly. But change won’t come as easy when you are working to improve your weaknesses. Working on your weaknesses requires an extra level of attention, effort, and commitment. You may even need to set aside some of your other goals for a while.

4. Create Specific Goals

To track how you’re doing with tackling your weaknesses, set milestones that you can use to keep track of your progress. Once you’ve created goals around a weakness, the next step is to develop smaller checkpoints so that you have a plan to keep yourself motivated to improve.
